Jasper Miles portrait on wood panel

Jasper Miles (1782-1849), formerly known as Mr. Boyd, worked primarily in Pennsylvania and New York State.  He is known for his very fine portraits on wood panel. This is a portrait of an attractive young woman in profile against a medium toned solid grey background.  Miles’ attention to detail is evident in the shading of her auburn hair, the fineness of her blue eyes and delicate facial features, the details of the lace on the gathered bodice of her black dress, and the distinctive shaded horn shape in the inner ear. A sticker on the back of the frame reads “Boyd Harrisburg, PA.  In excellent condition.  Dimensions:  sight 4.25” x 5.25”; frame 7.25” x 8.5”.
